A visit to Glasgow

Glasgow has a marketing message that say People make Glasgow and it is very true everyone we met was friendly and helpful apart from the verger at the Cathedral who claimed they were closing an hour before they actually were.

Donald Dewar was First Minister of Scotland and leader of the Scottish Labour Party. He sadly died at 63. The statue in his memory was unveiled by Prime Minister Tony Blair 2002. The statue was sculptured by Scottish artist Kenny MacKay. and capture Dewar brilliantly

Outside the Glasgow Museum of Modern Art, we came across some student who were doing an artwork to reflect poverty. I am not sure I got the artwork, but if the purpose of art is to get people talking and thinking then this piece achieved its aim

City Hall is one of the hidden gems of the city and if you turn up in time you can get on the daily tour of the building which I would highly recommen

he building is just amazing. The Lighthouse for me is the most interesting building in the city. It is the Scottish Centre for Design and Architecture and is located in the former offices of the Glasgow Herald which was designed by Charles Rennie Mckintosh.

The view from the top of the tower is a great view of the Glasgow skyline and you can see many of the great buildings designed by Mckintosh

The spiral staircase up to the top of the tower is a piece of modern design that works very well with the classic old building
