A trip on the West Highland Line

TheWest Highland Railway line feature on several of the best railway trip, list and the scenery is amazing and well worth a visit.

The line was opened in two parts. Then first part ran from Craigendoran just west of Glasgow to Fort William and was opened in 1894. The extension to Mallaig was opened in 1901.

The line has become famous in recent years for the Glenfinnan Viaduct which features in the Harry Potters movies. West Coast Mainline run steam trains from Fort William to Mallaig and they stop on the viaduct for photographs.

The scenery along the line is amazing, and the train is often travelling slow enough to obtain some acceptable photos from the train window with a little practice

Whilst we were in Mallaig, the Lancashire Fusiler was hauling the steam express. The engine was built in 1937 and ran till steam finished and was the preserved
