In the middle of the square, near city hall, stands the large statue of Giovanni da Verrazzano.  This famous explorer discovered the Hudson Bay in New York and was born just a few kilometers to the north of Greve.

Greve in Chianti is a medieval town located only 30 km away from Florence. Its triangular-shaped square has served as the regions's main market place for centuries. A portico on three sides of the square houses boutique shops, artisans workshops and restaurants, including a Tuscan butcher shop that has been in the same spot since 1729.
