Tricyrtis affinis - Perennial Toad Lilies for the Woodland Garden

by Steven Seidell September. 19, 2020 81 views

Tricyrtis is a shade-loving perrenial in the lily family whose small but beautiful and intricately designed orchid-like flowers stop people in their tracks. It heads a very short list of woodland plants that bloom in the fall. The Japanese have a prettier common name for toad lilies: hototogiso which translates to "little cuckoo", a shy but attractive forest dwelling bird.
