Looking at People

Recently I had my first solo photography exhibit in New Paltz NY and it went very well. I decided to put up the images from the show on this site so people who couldn't make the show could still see the images and read a little about what i tried to do. Enjoy.

“I am a part of all I have met”
- Alfred Lord Tennyson

Looking at People is a collection of studio portraits, candid street images, and other photographs I have taken that capture my vision of people and society. However, as I have come to realize, this show is also a self-portrait. Captured in the faces and actions of every subject I have photographed are my emotions, my ideas, and my influences. While I take a little bit of each person with me in my photographs, I also leave behind a bit of myself with each of them. Not only am I a spectator, recording events as I watch them unfold, but I am also a participant, affecting my surroundings without even fully realizing it. And so, in my attempt to photograph people while remaining on the periphery of their consciousness I have instead connected myself deeply to these people, these strangers, and these friends through an exchange of influences that even now may not be fully realized. And hopefully, now you are apart of this as well.
