Out of Africa: A Diversion

After a very eventful morning that included a close encounter with a lion, oh wait, I forgot that part! After the elephants passed by we puled into the parking spot for the watering hole observation blind, complete with sign that says, "Warning, you may encounter dangerous animals, exit car at your won risk." No sooner did we get out when a zebra ran by just on the other side of the wooden fence with two lionesses in hot pursuit! Seriously, this was less than 2m from where my wife stood. Well, those zebra were pretty fast and we never did see the end of the pursuit but there was a lot of commotion across the street in the forest a ways.

The kids needed a break from dusty dirt roads and to reconnect with civilization. Don't ask me why, I could stay in the park all day! We headed out the southeast entrance and drove to the adjacent Sun City. We drove up to the main lodge and then down to a parking lot so we could walk around the grounds and see some of the "free" stuff such as the aviary. I say, "free" because there is an entrance fee just to get on the grounds.

This place is amazing. The style of the hotel and the ornate sculptures are most impressive. Technically, this area is only for guests but we made it in :)

This hotel is open to the public and adjacent to the pro golf course and aviary.

Exploring the pool while in search of the aviary

We found the aviary!

It's a small aviary but the birds are plenty beautiful

Thanks so much, Jay. glad you liked them. I was like a kid in a candy store in that aviary.
