Out of Africa: What is was, was...RUGBY!

by Michael Anderson February. 01, 2017 1008 views

For those of you unfamiliar with the classic Andy Griffith comedy sketch, "What it was, was football," (the inspiration for my title) please "Google" it and give it a listen while you enjoy these images from a sport I find infinitely more engaging than American Football.

I was in Africa with a bunch of Sports Medicine students and trainers when we were invited to work at the Saturday University club rugby matches. It was amazing to be in the locker room prepping with the athletes and then on the sidelines to capture the action while my friends patched up the injured.

Great work and wonderful images. "...and they was a all a haven this here meetin' out in this here cow pasture..." I grew up with Andy, and blame my addiction to Ritz crackers on him. Also lived in North Carolina, and spent much time in Pilot Mountain with my niece who lived there for many years. Thanks for the memory.
