The Best Commute, Ever

Today I was driving to work... I volunteer at Custer State Park, and it was my turn to open the Wildlife Visitor Center and assist any folks who happened to come by. About 2 miles into the trip (it's about 8 miles, total), I ran into our buffalo herd. That morning, they had chosen to walk south along the road, so, we were all traveling together. As it turned out, it was the best commute to work, ever.

This is when I first caught up to the herd...

Along the way, I caught up with different family groups...

But, since we were all going in the same direction, I became part of the herd...

We all moved slowly south.

The highlight of the trip came when I stopped to let a few pass in front of me. One guy happened to notice the plastic bug/rock deflector on the front of the truck...

And decided to use it to scratch his chin...

Ya just gotta love those buffalo!

Take care,

That's so neat.  We've had it happen to us on several trips and it's always awesome to be up so close.

That's really great smile So, is this park that big or are they roaming outside of the park too ?

The park is 71,000 acres, and our herd is about 1400 bison. They roam freely within the park, but don’t usually wander outside. Thanks for the question.
