The history of pasta is varied, depending on which version you read. Some say it became popular in the 1300's, but only gained wide acceptance in the mid 1800's when the fork began to be used commonly at meal time. I toured our new county jail a couple of nights ago with our Sheriff's Mounted Unit, and the souvenir that we were given is the jail fork that the prisoners must use at meal time. I thought I'd heard our guide say that this "sp_ork" is the only implement they're given, and I can see why they wouldn't want the prisoners to even get a plastic knife, but they must serve food at some times that would require cutting?
This also gave me an opportunity to practice a new Photoshop technique that I just learned: Using a B&W adjustment layer and then removing the B&W from a part of the image.
