I grew up in Chicago, located near the middle of the US. That area is nicknamed "The Great Plains" because the land is quite flat for a couple hundred miles in all directions. So the first time I came to California, I absolutely fell in love with the beautiful hills that border two sides of the San Francisco Peninsula's Santa Clara Valley, aka "Silicon Valley". When I was about to be discharged from the Army in '72, I knew that I'd never leave Chicago if I went back, so I had the Army ship all my stuff to California. Now, nearly 50 years later, I still stare at these hills around my home every day and just love them. They're my skyscrapers!
One of the small hills that border our horse's home.
We taking our boys up there today to start getting them back in condition for this summers' hard rides.
From atop the hill, this photo includes only about 1/3 of the ranch my horses live in.
