Looking Down

I'm not a big fan of looking down on things. Not because of any fear of heights or of falling over the edge but because I feel it represents something else.

I believe that looking down on something is worse when it is done from a position of comparison. When we compare who we are to someone else, looking at who we are as being above or better than them opens up horrible doors. We may even highlight a persons flaws to them whilst being on a hypocritical level with them. In the bible it is written that we cannot compare ourselves to others when we ourselves are far from perfect.

"Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?" (Matthew‬ ‭7:3‬)

Comparing ourselves to others will always be done in a negative way unless we are striving to better ourselves. We can even view others by placing them on a pedestal and looking on in awe; making ourselves seem worse than we actually are. We have been created with such intent, with such passion, love and ability. The hardest thing can be unlocking that potential, that ability, that passion and having the right support network behind you. When we strive to be better it shouldn't be to be like someone else or to be better than someone else. The only thing we should strive for is, and I love the quote:

"The only person that you should try to be better than, is the person that you were yesterday."
