Hot spring in Vardzia, Republic of Georgia - 2014

Someone told us about an "out-of-the-way" hot spring in Vardzia. We had to find it. There were no signs or any kind of advertisement promoting it, so the quest was even more challenging. We found it and after paying a very resonable fee (it is located on a private property) we had it all to ourselves. And it was a HOT spring. The spring was discovered when potential prospectors were looking for oil and instead of "black gold" came upon hot water.

There is a crude little "swimming pool" and a sheet metal shed built around the hot spring. The water "flows" through the pool; it enters on one side and exits on the other. Then the water flows down to the Kura river, which is nearby (approximately 20 yards away).

Splash!!!

Hot water is NICE!!!

Hot pressure shower afterwards - nothing will make you feel more clean than this!

Two clean machines.

Georgian style picnic was a lovely way to finish a day of adventures!

Ok. I'm not sure if the link above will work. You can try pasting this "code" into Google Maps as well. It shows the approximate location of the hot spring in Vardzia. The code is : 97FC+MV Apnia, Gruzja

Hi, this trip was almost 4 years ago, so things there might look a little different now. First look for a village called Vardzia in southern part of Republic of Georgia (it's on Google Maps, I checked). The village is famous for ancient monastery carved (excavated) in a cliff side. Great place to visit by the way! There is pretty much only one road through this little village, it goes along the Kura River. Follow that road past the monastery... It meanders more or less in a southerly direction. A few kilometers later (can't remember exactly how many) you'll see on the LEFT a big pipe sticking out of the ground and water gushing out of it (in a horizontal direction). The river will be less than 50 yards behind it. It is hard to miss. There are a few buildings nearby, in one of them you'll find the pool. The guard/owner hangs out close by to accept a fee.
Good luck! Let me know if you find it and how did you like it!
P.s. Are you in Georgia now?
