Hagia Sophia in Istanbul -November 2018

Hagia Sophia is one of the most important structures ever built. It was originally constructed between 532 and 537 as an Eastern Orthodox cathedral. It served as one for about ten centuries (except between 1204 and 1261, when it was converted by the Fourth Crusaders to a Roman Catholic cathedral under the Latin Empire). In 1453, Constantinople (ancient name of Istanbul) was conquered by the Ottoman Empire under Mehmed the Conqueror, who ordered this main church of Orthodox Christianity converted into a mosque. It served as a mosque until 1935, when it was secularized and opened as a museum. (Information based on Wikipedia)

As soon as you step inside this enormous building, you become filled with a feeling of awe.

Incredibly detailed mosaics from the pre-mosque history of the building still cover some of the walls.

Hagia Sophia has been always famous for it's massive dome.
