We arrive in Kas, Turkey - November 2018

As Winter was approaching we became more and more eager to escape cold Central Europe. In the meantime, while in Bulgaria, we met with our dear friends Mary Lou and James who told us about a little Turkish town they fell in love with several years ago, Kas. We were so enticed by their stories that we decided to follow in their steps and spend a couple of coldest months there. We took a night bus from Veliko Tarnovo, Bugaria to Istanbul, Turkey. Spent a few days in Istanbul with our friend Alpasan. Then flew south from Istanbul to Dalaman, next took a bus from Dalaman to Fethiye and finally got on a smaller bus from Fethiye to Kas. The last leg of the journey took as right along the coastline as the sunset was in progress and it WAS incredible... We knew right then that we made a GOOD decision to come to Kas.

James and Mary Lou were already waiting for us at a local bus station. We arrived tired but very happy.

James and Mary Lou sharing their stories about Kas... We decided to follow them and make Kas our "Winter home". They arranged our accommodation, showed us around town and introduced us to all their Turkish and expat friends who live in Kas. Thanks to them we felt "right at home" in just a few days.

We watched this mesmerising sunset from the window of a bus taking us from Fethiye to Kas. We were speechless...

Every Friday in Kas is "the Bazaar day". On that day a big open-air market is erected. People from all the nearby villages come to sell and buy produce. Some vendors come from Fethiye and other towns. My favorites were fruits, veggies, honey, herb teas and of course spices!!!

On one of our first days in Kas we walked to the nearby public beach (Big Pebble Beach) and met some very bold cats :) While taking a rest on a lounge chair this little fellow decided to take advantage of a "warm spot" to lay on!

It was always exciting to watch big waves crushing on a rugged and rocky shore! In the background you can see the little lighthouse marking the entrance to the Kas Harbour.

This was the view from our apartment - the so called "Sleeping Giant of Kas".

Every sunset in Kas is a magical show...We liked to hike up higher to watch it from the base of the mountain where "The Sleeping Giant" rests.
