Exploring ancient ruins in Kas, November 2018

It is absolutely incredible to visit a place like Kas, Turkey. You can feel like you are literally touching the history of human kind... There are signs of human activity dating back to the 4th century B.C. (and older) scattered here and there within the town limits. Of course many more outside the town. These ruins are the true landmarks of all human history - burial sites, carved into stone with such precision and craftsmanship you might wonder how this was possible without any modern power tools. Steve and I felt a bit like Indiana Jones wandering around town, finding these places, sometimes seeing them from far away and trying to navigate our way across town to get to them and then exploring them. What an amazing feeling to touch a piece of rock that had been "worked on" by a man over two thousand years ago!!!

Sign both in Turkish and in English pointed us in the right direction.

This monument known as the Doric Tomb dates back to the 4th century B.C.Except for some of it's upper architectural elements, the entire tomb has been carved out of the bedrock in the shape of a slightly tapering cube about 4,5 meters high by 4,5 meters wide with a passage all around the monument.

Inside the Doric Tomb. Easy access to these sites makes it very easy to vandalize them too... As you can see someone made a fire inside this tomb.
