chink fag

i know it's politically VERY incorrect, but this is my contribution to the swine flu nonsense going on right now. nothing against the chinese nor anyone else who is concerned about one another unstoppable global epidemic… but all the hype produced around h1n1 is complete bullshit.

here are some facts, collected from various sources (which i would like to quote here, but haven't the time):

- there is right now around 2'000 suspected cases of h1n1 infections. nevertheless, only 10% of them have been confirmed by test in total. less than 1% have been fatal cases, all of which are in mexico (that baby in texas had been brought over the border for treatment).

- the virus is highly infectious (i.e easy to catch), but has a very low mortality rate (i.e. less then 1% of all confirmed cases are lethal, which is less a percentage than every seasonal flu going around each year). the sickness is usually similar to a slight flu. most people do not feel more than an upset stomach and a slight dizziness and are up and running latest after 3 to 4 days again.

- the virus has nothing to do with pigs, other than they have been a stage in the development chain of it. with other words, some human infected a pig, that poor pig got the sneeze, the virus changed slightly and the pig (not dying) infected a human. killing all pigs, like done in egypt for example, is a completely useless measure (and rather has religious reasons).

- the virus is already spread globally and no quarantine measure has any effect on its spreading anymore. in fact, when all the publicity started with those cases in mexico, the virus had been around at least for 2-3 weeks, completely uncontrolled and undiscovered.

- all mortal cases of the disease are restricted to mexico (that one baby that died in texas was a mexican child brought over the border to be treated in an american hospital). it is unclear as of now, why this is so - either there is a variant of the virus that is more dangerous for mexicans (unlikely) or simply hygienic standards for those infected in mexico have been poorer than in other countries, where all the medical attention was given to any even remotely likely case right from the start.

- there is no vaccination against the virus as of yet. tamiflu and at least one other medicament helps but it makes no sense to use it in advance, since that will very likely just make the virus resistant. the chance to get infected can be reduced over 80% by being reasonably precautious: wash your hands regularly, do not sneeze in somebody's face. everything else is pretty much hysterical nonsense.

- face masks, as shown above, do NOT prevent YOU from getting the virus, they only reduce the chance that you SPREAD it, if you have it, by aprox. 50%.

- screening, as done in japan and singapore (i.e. taking body temperature from those travelers arriving at the airport), is a completely useless measure since when you have the virus, you spread it BEFORE you have any heightened temperature. in fact, you spread it without feeling to have any flu at all. furthermore, the temperature scans are highly unreliable and will give a high percentage (have no number here) of false positives.

- quarantining suspected cases alone is equally useless. yes, you reduce the danger of THIS person spreading the virus - but he had a chance to spread it for several days before he actually has any symptoms.

with other words… all that is happening right now only helps the press to sell newspapers, governments to get tighter control over their suspects, and pharmacy concerns to make huge profits with medicaments that are - in large - not necessary.

on this planet, people die from hunger every day in quantities that are beyond any imagination. people are killed and tortured in wars and even so called peaceful, democratic states in hundreds every month. people suffer from fatal illnesses, known to be curable since years, only because pharma concerns and governments and corrupt war lords do not distribute available medication, which instead is being dumped into animal food. but we have time and energy to think up pandemic plans and measures for a relatively harmless viral infection. just because it's soooo scary if you hear a cry in the dark.

once again, i am not saying all of the above is the only truth. but i urge you to consider some of this when you read or see the news.

The notions of border and exclusion are fundamental to define what normality is. Fear of what lies outside and fear of being left outside rule nowadays the world.

our society grosses me out these days. i feel so bad for all the mexicans living here in in LA. honestly i think people thrive by living in fear and focusing on the negative.

when i saw your chink fag post i burst out laughing. it just made me laugh.

oh, thats a huge, complex topic, including its core, the psychology of modern fear... yes, fear does not just happen; it is socially constructed and then manipulated by those who seek to benefit.
and the best to do, what you`ve just demonstrated above, learn some of the science and develop the habit of thinking twice about your reactions and then extend that understanding to others but also accept that we’re human, that we’re susceptible to misjudgments.... feeling better after your politically incorrect contribution to this nonsense?:-)
