this diagram is a good example for journalism well done. it shows in visual comparison, how much money certain activities and events cost or have costed in recent politics and some history. i'll be trying to translate some of this for those who can't read german, but if you can, read the according article [tagesanzeiger.ch] where this was posted with in the züricher tages-anzeiger.
i'm posting this here not only for the numbers which in themselves are very interesting, but also as a reminder that good journalism is possible - something i have come to be very doubtful about in the past years. in a world where almost every fact published has been edited, manipulated, taken out of context and is being used for a purpose which it has been made up for, infographics are one of the most interesting tools to make content understandable by simplifying complex issues and yet providing enough information to make an educated impact.
of course, this is an arguable statement and i'd be glad to see YOUR examples commenting on this.
p.s. here is another similar diagram [informationisbeautiful.net] entirely in english by the author of “information is beautiful” David McCandless; showing comparing different numbers with mostly the same gist.
