3 card coard depiction of people in an art installation

hamburger bahnhof, 2012

people are made of card board paper
paper is made by people
no lifes are lost in between the sheets
and no life is given

before you judge the smile of your ancestors
find out what they had to endure every day
rather than wishing to know them better
maybe they had no meaning at all

you, by all means, have meaning galore
most of which has washed ashore
from people you hardly knew they exist
aside from paper filled up by some ghost

"maybe they had no meaning at all"; That line is so true. It's amazing how often people project their thoughts and ideas onto others believing they they know something about them - or is that what I just did then?

I very much like this image. The slightly reproachful eye of the lady in front. The slightly OOF pair at the back looking more jolly. There you go, I've done it again!

thanks, jon... your thoughts are always appreciated and very much up to the point I was trying to get to myself. :-)

yes, projection looms big with humans. maybe its a general condition of consciousness, kind of a consequence of the fact that we never really objectively know, but have to imagine that we understand.

Surely Hillary Clinton in the foreground and Lyndon Johnson at the back!

actually, I'm pretty sure, these were taken from old GDR (german democratic republic, the socialist east before the wall came down) politician's pictures; the guy in the background very much resembles erich honecker (last president of the GDR)

I remember doing a tour of East Germany after the wall came down - we stayed at The Elephant Hotel in Weimar, apparently where he had stayed. Good memories of an informative trip - we crossed over the border into The Czech Republic, onto Prague, Slovakia, and finally into Slovenia - where we spent 4 years.
