Greedy gold diggers

Squirrels are adorable - especially the red squirrels. Little furry woodland spirits. They are very careful, hectic and always on alert. But they are also very greedy gold digging dwarfs and therefore easily persuaded by a walnut. I like to feed them in the park and garden at Schönbrunn. Squirrels lose their shyness like a rotten nut after two or three good walnuts. They jump on the park bench, into the handbag or on the lap. Then they take their time to bring the nut into the right position before the nut will transported to the hiding place. After a while they eat even fresh pieces of nuts from the palm.

My daughter and me feed squirrels since she was a toddler. I photographed squirrels many times but not one picture is as good as the photo I saw today. David made every single hair of the fur visible.

#2 Just amazing shots!  Squirrels are so adorable..though some get mad at them for eating their bird seed :-)  In the park or in their own habitat they are so funny though.
