Highway with a view

by Sigrid Strohschneider-Laue October. 17, 2017 2150 views

Very early – actually before I had my the first coffee – in the morning I was on the road again. The sun came up and the mist vanished. Then I saw more and more of Hohe Wand (1,132 m) and Schneeberg (2,076 m). I drove the car to the next highway restaurant to shot some photos. It was a spectacular view and I had very refreshing 10 minutes!
Three days before this beautiful 10 minutes, I had on exact this road an serious encounter with a buzzard. I was driving with 130 km/h on the fast lane, when it hit with spread wings the front window of my car. In this moment I had no view at all and I'm glad to be still alive!

And he didn't break the window? I will never forget the mountains and lakes of Austria.

It was pure luck! It hit right in the middle of the window but near the point, where the rear mirror is. The impact was incredible, but the window didn't break. All problems were inside of the car. The mirror came down, some plastic cap was out of place and the lights inside where lit in an instant. I saw spread wings and it was thrown over the rooftop. I didn't move the steering wheel and I didn't hit the breaks. If I have made just a tiny error, six cars would have been involved in a fatal crash. But I'm still shaking ... anguished
Yes, Austria has some nice landscapes! grinning

Yes it is, but I admit, I prefer the Little Hungarian Plain more. It was a close call, but I feel sorry for the buzzard too.
