Valkyrie

It was a bright and shiny day in Zadar, when I put in reverse gear to drive the car through a slim drive way out to the main road. And there it was, it came out of the nowhere and I hit the brakes. I almost drove over a very fast and really determined turtle. Like an unstoppable tank it walked over the drive way in the direction of house and garden. Self confident like any other dwarf in full armor it stopped for nothing – not even for my car! It stormed the green battlement – we call it lawn – and immediately begin to stuff its mouth. It was not in the slightest way shy. Because of its short tail it was probably a female. I photographed it, filmed it and put it twice out of my way. In the end Roland and Victoria had a watchful eye, that it stay put until the car was out of its path. Wildlife in a big city at its best!

That would be illegal, since it is endangered in the wild due to habitat loss, overgrazing by life stock, herbicides and – before it was banned – the pet trade. The resulting loss of genetic diversity in the populations living in the fragmented landscape is another issue.

Don't worry it's not an actual problem, this picture was taken during July!

Even I would like to take it, but there is this daughter watching me with her right eagle eye and her left hawk eye, so I have to do the right thing ... *sigh*

Try to clear the cache of your computer, maybe it is a "homemade" problem?!

Modern age dinosaur. I bet you had to take this picture with your belly on the ground.
