Today we visited the long-eared owl Archimedes in Wiener Tierschutzverein. He still doesn't eat by himself, so he will be stuffed with a day-old chick once in a while. A healthy diet, which will soon turn him into a dodo. Yes, he is still recovering, but at least he was sitting upright and not hunched down like the invalid he was last Thursday. Even his ears - the long feathers on his head - were upright and he showed the amazing capability of owls to turn the head almost for 270°. When we came in the room, he was sitting with his back to the door, but his head was turned in our direction. A bright and shiny eye was fixed on my camera. I shot some pictures and I didn't care, if they were good or not, because he is kept in a quiet place, where visitors usually are not allowed. I'm very glad, that we got permission for this brief visit.
Maybe he will be transferred to Greifvogelstation Haringsee next week. Somehow he managed to "owl himself" into my heart, so I will follow up on him, wherever he will go.
