Forgotten - Weekly Theme "Wheels"

by Sigrid Strohschneider-Laue February. 07, 2018 1791 views

This horse cart was rotting away in an abandoned building. Four wheels for real horsepower. Sadly it was not properly maintained, the wood was splintered, the paint fading and the whole carriage was dirty and unpolished. Once upon a time it must have been a nice, tidy and useful vehicle. Maybe it was used during the hunting season, to transport a merry group to the hunting ground and afterwards to the tavern. It would need only a little bit work and it could be a proper wagonette again.

By the way the abandoned building was right around the corner of the main entrance to a famous château in the Loire valley – sometimes it's all about keeping a good facade. If I wouldn't be so curious and try look around every corner, I would have missed it!

A wagonette with a front bench for the driver and two benches along the right and left side so the passengers are sitting opposite each other.

Wow, very cool. I, too, love to think about all the stories held by treasures like this...

I have a friend in Ireland and he said his dad used one for courting his mother they had to sit on opposite sides, cool photo and cool history

OMG that's hard and a long way for true love! Imagine bumpy roads and forget about "holding hands" and try instead "touching feet" ... *sigh*

It would be so much fun to renovate that wagon!
And, I think you're right, it deserves a trip to the tavern...

I would ONLY use it for the trip to the tavern - at least a horse will always find its way back on his own without help by passengers in a "tavern state of mood"! wink
