Orchid Challenge #5

by Sigrid Strohschneider-Laue March. 21, 2018 1926 views

Maybe you want join the orchid challenge too?!
I will post some orchids in the next days, like this orchid from Herrenhausen Gardens.

Once in a while I photographed a label too. Sadly most of the time it doesn’t belong to the orchid in the foreground but to something completely different “non-orchid” in the background. So, the label in the background is not the name of the orchid, it’s the scientific name of the Chinese evergreens.

At least I learned from this visit something very important: Curiosity is one thing but knowledge is something else. If you combine curiosity with a little bit knowledge, it will help to discover a lot more about a subject.

If you are interested in orchids and want to know, how to care for them, please read - well illustrated with lot of pictures – instructions by ANDI. In the end it will help you during your next photographic journey through the world of orchid’s to discover a lot more than you will imagine!
For example: I will photograph more of an orchid than only its blossoms.

It looks like a spider or even a daddy long legs. I didn't even know there were so many different kinds of orchids until And I Saw's posts.  You are right about "Curiosity is one thing but knowledge is something else. If you combine curiosity with a little bit knowledge, it will help to discover a lot more about a subject". Wish I could instill that point to my kids at school :)

You wish for the same as my husband does! grinning
I'm not the gardening or botany type and I needed decades to admire orchids (lack of fragrance, most of the time ...). I think it needs a lifetime and teachers are the spark,  but they seldom will see their success.

I am not the gardening type either. I like flowers, for the color, and shapes mostly. My favorite flower is the Hyacinth because of its fragrance and this time of the year they are all over the grocery stores. But unfortunately they don't last long :(

Doesn't matter. My friend buys hyacinths as a colorful additions for her appartment. After the blossoms are gone, she will give the bulbs to my mother. All the hyacinths in my mother's garden are therefore called "Christine". Some of them last since 20 years - maybe they have even produced little hyacinths ...
