Long Night of Churches

Yesterday evening a lot of churches in Austria were open until midnight. Churches of all confessions offered a diverse and not only a religious program. So we went out at 5.00 p.m. to be another three people and a little dog among 360.000 visitors. Last year we avoided the first district, but this year we didn’t want to start our tour with an empty stomach. Therefore Philigrano, were Victoria is employed, became our first destination. We enjoyed handmade bread and pasta as well as a good glass of vine. Afterwards we started our tour to visit for chapels and churches.

It was a good opportunity to experiment with Zilla’s new lens, which has a really good vibration-reduction, which came handy after sunset and inside of the more or less dark buildings. The street scene right in front of Café Central is not bad at all, therefore I posted two versions. Actually, I was surprised about the outcome without using a tripod. Btw. a robust tripod with a bubble level – our old tripods are ..., let’s call it ... three legged nightmares – will be the next item on my shopping list.

At the moment my time is limited. I was visiting my parents twice this week and tomorrow I will be on the road again. It was - and will be - exhausting and in the end I was happy to survive the last organ recital in Augustinerkirche, without snoring like an angel from hell on this very pretty but extremely uncomfortable pew. Although I'm not a religious person, it seems I paid for every sin in my life just by sitting on this carved torture bench. I have no time to post more than a few pictures - at least I finally got the chance to take some pictures at all!

First of all I looked at your #2 picture and I started drooling. Secondly, Victoria is a carbon copy of you. Thirdly I learned a new word/ meaning since you sent me to Cafe Central....Schanigarten and finally interesting enough there is something similar (in some ways) to the Lang Nacht Der Kirchen here as well except it is not done over one night but rather over a week's time, where several of the different denominations of churches as well as synagogue open up their doors to the public and celebrate the unity of the "religions".
