Valentine’s Day, so lots of lovely pastries. A special day for us, as it is our unofficial 50th wedding anniversary. The day we in fact committed ourselves to each other. Our wedding followed in August.

Interesting architecture in the old town. This part of Nice had become quite squalid between the world wars but has been much restored over the past 60 years and is now very beautiful.

Pretty waterfall at the top of the mountain. The original city was located up here by the Greeks and had a fresh water spring. The medieval castle and city were also built up here. When the city started to overflow the castle, it spread down to the current site of the old town.

Nice was famous as a fishing village in its historical times. The harbour now has huge and expensive yachts in this very safe harbour

We stopped for a drink in the old city, and ran across socca for the first time. A local flat bread made of chickpeas and cooked like pizza in a wood burning oven. This shop was particularly popular. We did not try this snack as we were full, but we will before we leave.

Thanks Abby. I was squinting into the very bright sun, so not looking too happy. In fact, I am happy being here and enjoying our leisurely rambles. Barbara does look great.
