Visited Brazil and Rio in January 2014. Rio as with all famous places comes with a set of expectations of what it is and what should be experienced. Although the set pieces were as expected, grandiose and spectacular. But as almost always, what captures you and the true soul of a place is the experiences outside of the set pieces. Rio was no exception with the experiences of the soul of the city enjoyed in the smaller and less well known beaches, the various suburbs and just beyond the set pieces.
Here, I just wanted to present a different perspective or view of the set pieces.

Copacabana main thoroughfare.

Copacabana beach, reminded me of the song "only mad dogs and englishment...midday sun"

Off the suburb of Urca.

Catedral Metropolitana de São Sebastião, which is a stunning example of modern architecture.
