James, Texas Hunter

by Tamara Harden November. 25, 2008 2515 views

While visiting here in San Angelo, Texas, I had the privilege to meet James. He is a good friend of my parents. He recently hunted on my dad's 44 acres, (property that they bought for the sole perpose of hunting on, because here in Texas, you can only hunt on private property) and got himself a deer. He brought over the antlers to show us the results of his hunt.

The head was boiled to remove all the meat and residue.

He did a great job of cleaning this skull up.

In Washington, we call this a 4 by 5 point, in Texas they call it a 9 point. They count it all together.

I just noticed from the first picture that I have the same couch as your parents do!

I'm having hard time with the head boiling...soup anyone? I am a big hypocrite...I love venison but I hate hunting!

Very interesting - I've never seen anything like that. Imagine it took a lot of work to get the skull cleaned up like that. Enjoy your trip!
