Dragonfly & Frog Dress

This entry isn't for the photoblog audience…..it is merely for my family. I recently bought a new sewing machine, and I haven't sewn for 25 years!!! But, having granddaughters, who will soon be too old to wear the things that grandma makes, and too big for the cute patterns, I figured it was high time I got busy, and did some sewing.

I bought this, knowing it would be way too long for Joci, and my plan was to just cut it off and hem it, but the whole border would've been lost, and that is a major part of the cuteness of this dress. I didn't really want to lose the bottom. I had to do some thinking……..

…so I came up with an idea. I would cut the skirt off, and trim up the top, then cut away from the top of the skirt, instead of the bottom, thus giving it more of a gather, as well.

Here it is, ready for the gathered skirt to be attached to the top portion.

Make some straps, and voila!!

The dragonfly buttons were so flippin cute!! I think they add to the whole thing. I love the way this turned out :) Plus, I really like this with more gathering, instead of the previous way. It looks more girlie. What do you think? Did I do ok for my first try?

I want one! Very cute Tam. I'm so jealous. I can't sew. I buy the Sew Easy kits and end up crying because I can't figure it out?! : ) I can't wait to see pictures of it on Joci!
