Hokkaido 2019-07

As is the case with most of neighboring countries, Korea and Japan have not been keeping good relationship with each other ever since. Korea has been troubled with Japan's invasion for hundreds of years and the last one, 1910 ~ 1945 of colonial period is still vivid in the memory of those who have been through.

As time goes by old men passed away and the hatred to the neighbor seems alleviated and the relationship between two countries look like those with any other two countries. History warns us how the politicians have tricked people to ask sacrifice to utilize people for their own purpose at will and people knew it well but when it comes to hatred, the strongest feeling of human together with fear, got holds of the peoples mind, they stop thinking only to follow greedy politicians words. How easily they become politician's slave and marionettes and eventually prey!

They do know how to move people using the feeling of fear and hatred. I believe modern citizens are well educated than before but those stupidity repeats itself on and on without failure.

Japanese politicians made it difficult to export couple of crucial semiconductor chemicals to Korea and anti-Japan moods in Korea is prevailing. Buying Japanese goods and trip to Japan is regarded as traitor's behavior and that gave us a headache to our family who reserved trip to Japan months ago. I had to think it over and over again and had talk with my wife whether we should go on the trip or not. In the end, as you can see, we made it to Japan. I thought reservation is a promise. If I break the promise due to political reason, what is the difference between me and those dirty politicians? Instead we did little shopping and had meals with very humble foods.

I have Japanese friends and have been there lots of times to learn their culture and I don't hate them at all - even I used to take it for granted that I have to hate Japanese as a Korean before my first visit to Japan, 1997 - but as long as Japanese government hold those trade restriction I don't think I can buy Japanese goods as I used to.

I do hope people to wake up to realize what they are doing now. I don't ask people to love each other but I'm asking them to respect each other.

Early in the morning, around Kurodake rope way station, Daisetsuzan national park. I have been to here years ago for a ski. It is a wonderful place for powder skiing and tree runs.

As it may take a couple of hours to hit the peak(seen at the center of the picture), I took a different route which takes just 20 minutes to have this view. It was very cloudy for days and I could have the view of mountain top only for some seconds. I can say I was lucky to have this view.

Way down from the mountain. I descended this steep hill on skis years ago instead of rope way. It was such a thrilling experience and I don't think I can do that again. It was too scary.

We mistakenly parked the car in a parking lot quite far from the Aoiike but the trail from the parking lot to the Aoiike was just beautiful. The road looks best fit for a commercial of eco-friendly cars. :)

Actually I didn't take this shot for the flower but for the bumblebee, which looks quite different from those honeybees that I used to see. They do not look ferocious but rather cute to my eyes.

* A caption on the picture above : I think there's something wrong with the blog. A caption of the other picture in the wrong place. I tried to correct it several time but in vain. It was taken in Aoiike. Nothing to do with flowers or bees.

Such a beautiful set! The flowers are quite a sight, and your use of lines and textures enhance them even more. I'm glad you followed through with your trip, not only for the stunning photos you shared, but because it seems like the more extreme people become in their attitudes, the more necessary (and brave) it is to be reasonable.

Thank you, Bethany. I'm happy that you enjoyed them. There is a saying in Korea that "Pictures only are left after the trip." Not only for those who have been to the trip, but the pictures help those who have not been there through imagination. I want you to join me again and again with pictures I share. smile

I agree with every word you have written! I always made the experience that travelling people are open minded. Somebody who travelled much is not able to hate other cultures, because during journeys we realize that people of other cultures have equal problems and sorrows than ourselfs and that they laugh about the  same odd things we do. If I could, I would send every racist on a one-year-world-trip. I don't think, they would be the same stupid person after this year...
Breathtaking photos, Ho. #2 is looking like from a fairy tale, the view in #7 is just spectacular, #9 looks like austria :), #13 reminds me on the lavender fields in the Provence/France, #14 on flower (tulip) fields in the netherlands and the pics of the poppy fields are just awesome! Great post!

Thank you for your comments. Meeting face to face and experiencing oneself is the best to understand things as it is. Without direct experience, knowledge can be biases and distorted through writing and recording by others.
Now I can understand how Hokkaido is shaped like that. I think Japanese could be impressed by the landscape of Austria and France and tried to realize them in their own land. Japanese are good at learning things from foreign culture to make their own, just like the science and law system they built according to those of Germany around the beginning of 20th century.
Anyhow if things get better between Korea and Japan, I'd like to take a hiking in Northern Alps in Japan, they say it's as beautiful as real Alps in Europe. The air is much fresher in Japan, which I do love. smile

Thank you that you like them. We used to say that there's nothing left except pictures after the trip. :)
