One of the big things that happened this week was going to Wilco Precast, which is a precast concrete construction facility. This is where two beams will be cast for testing in the structures lab during my time in Auckland.

One of the big things that happened this week was going to Wilco Precast, which is a precast concrete construction facility. This is where two beams will be cast for testing in the structures lab during my time in Auckland.

Here is a picture of all of the rebar tied together before it was placed in any formwork. Tying it took a long time, as you can imagine. Looking forward to testing the concrete walls once they have been constructed.

I also have begun working with a PhD student on the damage of unreinforced masonry buildings, such as the one pictured above. We are looking at volume loss and debris from buildings in Christchurch, New Zealand, after the Canterbury Earthquakes in 2011.
