This weekend we went south to Rotorua for Friday night, and west to Waitomo for Saturday night. Rotorua is a town surrounded by hot springs. Pictured above is a swimming hole in Kerosene Creek that has hot springs below it. The water was warm and it was relaxing to swim around in!

Later in the day we went to a redwood forest near Rotorua. We didn't expect to see redwoods in New Zealand! We drank some hot chocolate and walked around on a trail in the forest for a bit before dinner.

That night in Rotorua, naturally we took advantage of the hot springs again and went to a Polynesian Spa for a few hours. It is filled with man-made pools filled with natural mineral water!

The next day, we went to Waiotapu, which is an active geothermal area near Rotorua. It's filled with many geothermal pools that are colored by the various minerals in each of them. The pool shown above is called the Champagne Pool.

This is another pool in Waiotapu. It is called Devil's Bath.

We then drove to Waitomo, where we toured the famous glow worm caves. Unfortunately, I don't have pictures of those. On our way there we made a quick pit stop to see this amazing waterfall! It was only 1/4 mile to walk to, and was right off the highway., I'm amazed by all of the natural beauty here.

On our way back to Auckland from Waitomo, there was a beautiful sunset that I figured I would share as well! Despite it being the middle of winter here, the weather has been incredible and I'm feeling pretty lucky.
