This weekend we decided to go big and take a day off of work to fly down to the south island to Queenstown. We felt like we've seen a good amount of the north island, and wanted to explore more south! The main thing we did on Friday was do a long hike up to a mountain summit near Queenstown.

This is the breathtaking view from the hiking trail. It was an incredible hike - one of the best ones I've ever been on!

On our way back to queenstown from our hike, we stopped at Mirror Lakes, shown above. I'm sure you can tell why it was named that! The mountain views even from the low lands were beautiful.

At the end of the day we went to a chocolate shop and got delicious ice cream. Not kidding, it is probably the best ice cream I've ever had! It was funny to me that we were getting ice cream in cold weather, but I'm glad we did.

On Saturday, we drove up to a ski resort called Treble Cone. The photo above was taken by a little cafe between slopes where we stopped for some hot chocolate between runs in the afternoon. Skiing in New Zealand was nothing like in the US - there were no trees on the whole mountain!
