This is a REALLY interesting shot! Here are the things I like: placement of the arch in the shot and the people (I'm beginning to feel like photos without people lack soul... you got the two walking at just the right point). Things I might do differently: move slightly right and look slightly left so that the facades of the buildings on the left would show a little more while still getting the line of the street... and maybe go with a true black/ white as opposed to the brown tone (I think this would make the sky less of a void area).

In answer to your question... I think we are making slow progress.
