  • Posted Oct. 25, 2009 by Beth Viewed 210 times

My friend Trish's cat, Molly. (very sweet)

Paul and I went back to our old 'hood for the 10th annual Patterson Park Lantern Parade [creativealliance.org].
This Ukranian church faces the park.

The sky was looking awlfully cool as the sun set.

The sun sets on Eastern Avenue.

Our friends Ann and Ian have worked the parade for the last 3 years.

a stiltwalker warms up…

someone's cool spider lantern

Most excellent puppet lantern

Me and my little witch lantern I made.
(I made a few of the lantern bags for the movie “Liberty Heights” like 12 years ago, still had them in the basement, so took one of them and attached it to a stick with some wire.)

Take a paper bag and cut a pattern into it, then stick colored tissue paper to the inside, put a lit candle inside (carefully), et voila, a lantern.

Other parade marshalls wear pagoda lantern hats (after the Patterson Park Pagoda.

Big bird lantern puppets.

rolling lantern and more puppets

some of the event sponsored lanterns people made at the earlier workshop

cool purple lantern

me and the Mr.

I liked the bird on the right a lot.

Some people come in costume.

There are various bands and drummers and such spaced throughout the parade. We went alittle in front of a Dixieland style band.

“Oh when the saints”, etc, etc…

How the rolling lanterns are powered.

Tall puppet things

This lady made a Bawlamore lantern- the O's (Orioles-baseball team), “Hey Hon” and a lady with a beehive hairdo. (not shown)

Hard to shoot the parade in the dark with a point n shoot… it's quite long , quite loud, and very fun!!

The birds in action.

When it ends, there's always a 10-15 minute shadow puppet show on a big screen.

cool stuff…

Until next year!….

Awesome... and I still am wondering why nothing like that is ever organised here.

So cool! Love the lantern constellation in #24 and had a giggle over the "hey hon" one.
