day3: The TEMPLE of RATS............Karni Mata Mandir

by Tomie Poodle June. 04, 2012 6626 views

Karni Mata (1387 ?? 1538)

was a female Hindu sage born in the Charan caste and is worshiped as the incarnation of the goddess Durga by her followers. She is an official deity of the royal family of Jodhpur and Bikaner. During her lifetime, she laid the foundation stone of two of the important forts in Rajputana. She lived an ascetic life, and most of the temples dedicated to her were dedicated during her lifetime. A temple dedicated to her during her lifetime differs from others in that it does not contain an image or idol of her but rather contains a foot-print to symbolize her visit to that place. The most famous of her temples is the temple of Deshnoke, which was created following her mysterious disappearance from her home. The temple is famous for its rats, which are treated as sacred and given protection in the temple. This temple is near to Bikaner and Nokha. Contrary to some reports, the temple is of the Hindu sect and is not affiliated with the Jainism.

the temple, outside view.

the inside court.

the rats are sacred and they protect the temple.

se mordre la queue :))

shoes are not allowed inside the temple…take care to your toes and where you put your feet!

tradition says that if you see a white rat you get luck and happiness …do you see him?

they are cute! isn't it?

revenants et rats…un cauchemar sur PB!

Ghost and rats, a nightmare on PB!

wow! what a post and that is a lot of rats. I do think they are kind of cute but still that is a lot of rats. don't think I'd like to stand barefoot around them. they'd peel me off the ceiling if one ran across my foot or up my leg!!! ahhhhh!
do you know why they are sacred??

It is a very good place to be a rat, you were very brave to go in there with bare feet...

I'm glad that at least you saw the white rat and now have good luck. I don't think I could have done that. This is an extraordinary post, M. :)

Ah oui, suuuuuuperr mimi Tomie!!!
