Day 199 - Project 365 "In My Refrigerator"

by Trinicia Perch July. 18, 2019 133 views

Come summer time a green market pops up every Thursday near the job. It's not a large one, only a few vendors. I can honestly tell you I can't recall what the other vendors are selling because I zoom in on only one. The pickle vendor! What makes the pickle vendor so special?

Pickled Okra!

They are sour, vinegary, a little salty and have some heat. They are my absolute favorite healthy snack. I stock up the fridge with a container once a week.

One of my all time favorite veggies!
I love okra prepared, in almost any fashion!!! (especially in seafood gumbo).....
That's one thing I find lacking, where I currently live....
Okra is seldom found at the grocery stores or at the local farmers markets.
I'm guessing that it doesn't get warm enough, long enough, around here, to produce well........sigh....

I eat the frozen ones too.  It's really good seasoned with garlic and roasted in the oven.  Makes it a little crispy and the slime dries out.

My favorite has always been pickled green beans. Love the crisp texture and just like your description sour, vinegary, salty and somewhat hot. Never tried Okra, might has to look for it smile
