A male cicada (Cryptotympana takasagona) on a trunk of Jacaranda tree on my balcony in Taichung, Taiwan 一隻公的高砂熊蟬在陽台藍花楹的樹幹上被我發現。高砂(タカサゴ,Takasago)是從前日本對台灣的稱呼。

He has a retro vintage metal microphone also. The abdominal pronunciation device is almost entirely orange-yellow, which is the characteristic of the male of Cryptotympana takasagona. 他還有一個複古的老式金屬麥克風。腹部發音器幾乎整個都是橙黃色,是高砂熊蟬的雄蟬的特色,超好認。

It’s hard to ignore him, because he is too noisy for a very long time. 很難不注意到他,他叫得太大聲太久了。

At the same time, there is another male cicada singing on a trunk of Macaranga (Macaranga tanarius) on my balcony. 同時有另一隻蟬在我陽台血桐樹幹上狂叫。

Great close-ups! Does this kind of cicada leave behind an empty skin when it molts?

Although I did not see the molt of this guy, the answer is Yes.

Wow! It is really incredible to see the molting process. I've found the empty skins before, but never seen how molting happens. Thank you for sharing that video!

Great closeups, compositions, colors, info & bokeh! I used to have a dog that would catch one & hold it gently while carrying it in his mouth. The poor cicada, in his efforts to go free, would buzz like crazy. My dog would always bring it to me so I could hear him buzzing. I would always laugh & try to get him to release the poor creature, which he would do, after he got a good laugh from me. He was a dog comedian, who just loved to make me laugh!
It was a "dog joke"!!!!smilesmilegrinning
