The balcony observer's 340th report- Sea lion show (Mulberry, Part 8)

by Tsao T-F July. 14, 2021 290 views

The Light-vented bulbul (Pycnonotus sinensis) is larger than the Japanese white-eye (Zosterops japonicus). When the mulberries mature, the Light-vented bulbul will guard these fruits and scare away Japanese white-eyes. But sometimes, the Light-vented bulbul leaves the job without permission, so the Japanese white-eye can play a good knife and fork.

They say, “When the cat's away the mice will play.”

A pair of Japanese white-eye (Zosterops japonicus) came to my balcony while the Light-vented bulbul (Pycnonotus sinensis) was away. The one on the left is "Zuo-Zuo”; the right one is "You-You”.

She got one. She held the mulberry, and then jumped onto the branch of the Indian almond tree (Terminalia catappa). She was showing off to me.

It was You-You's turn.

He got one, too. This time he lifted the mulberry aloft, imagining that he was a sea lion on the stage.

What should I do after breakfast? Of course dress myself up!

Such a delightful and wonderful balcony series with "Zuo-Zuo” & "You-You." Your balcony is like a daily soap opera of nature! smile

In a past life, I had aviaries and kept and bred foreign birds now, not everyone likes the idea of wild birds in captivity and I struggled with the right and wrong of it but, I also always wanted pure bred birds, in my mind, to maintain true and pure examples as well as protecting the future of some of them. Zosterops were always on my list but I never acquired a pair. I no longer keep birds, right or wrong? But, I do love to see all species from around the world smile +1

Thank you for your feedback, my friend. I am glad to hear your life experience. I believe you like and spend a lot of time on birds.smile
I am not a biologist. I think it's very well to keep wild animals out. They come to my balcony usually for food, sometimes just for rest. Occasionally, they will stay overnight here. As long as they are willing to let me take pictures, I am very satisfied.camera

I'm glad you like this report, Jay. The stories are gifts from nature to all us. And it is my pleasure to report them.
The back of the body and wings are green; the ventral side is yellow-white.bird
