Macaranga tanarius is a dioecious tree. There are only two on my balcony. Fortunately, one of them is female and will bear fruit (the other one is not sure yet).
The fruit is a lobulated capsule, about 1 cm in diameter, with long, soft prickles on the outside. They look like evil bacteria in cartoon movies. Each capsule contains two or three spherical seeds, about 5 mm in diameter. There are longitudinal grooves on the surface of the capsule, which split along the groove when mature, releasing black seeds.
