Weekly Theme - Photographic Resolutions

by Bethany Plonski January. 03, 2019 431 views

Although I didn't get started until later last year, I really enjoyed doing the weekly theme challenges through the PB community forum. This year, one of my resolutions is to complete all 52 challenges.

I am also giving myself one additional assignment each month based on something that scares me a little. Taking pictures of people is one of those things, so I started with that.

I like baby steps, so I decided to practice with people I know first. This is my oldest nephew Max, who was wonderful to work with. In addition to being an adorable kid, he was so excited about trying to ride his dad's skateboard that he ignored me most of the time, which was really helpful!

Max loves to do everything his older sister does, and she is getting pretty good with her skateboard. He tried his hardest to stand up on his own, but eventually he decided it was more fun to ride on his belly.

I had a really hard time choosing just one photo to submit this week!

Other "scary" topics I plan to explore later in the year are food photography (which I enjoy, but also find completely intimidating), black and white photography, formal portraits, still life, controlling the camera wirelessly, different types of indoor lighting, and maybe (a big maybe) street photography.

If you have any other suggestions of things that may scare a girl who would most likely stick to birds, critters, and plants if it were up to her, feel free to suggest them! :) I'm happy to add them to my list!

I really want to photograph shoppers in busy high streets, but am really worried cos i'm asian and when you carry a massive backpack on your bag and then point your zoom on some random strangers I get worried security will think I'm really dodgy. Still having lots of issues trying to get the guts to do this, and also do it in a way which is respectful to anyone I photograph!

That kind of thing worries me too. For some reason, having a camera always seems to draw attention! And I love the candid moments that street photography captures, but there are many times when I would not appreciate someone taking my picture without my knowledge or permission. It's a blurry line...

That was my second favorite one in this batch. He was figuring out how to take my picture with his watch! smile I love kids' faces when they are concentrating.

Thanks, and yes, it absolutely was! He wore himself out and was ready to quit by that time. smile

#1 is really nice. My suggestion: keep up the good work. Doing that for the next 52 weeks can be scaring enough already, can't it ? smile

Thank you! smile And yes, it definitely can be. I thought pretty seriously about trying the 365 challenge this year, but a weekly/monthly pace is much more doable and enjoyable with my current schedule. The idea of a daily topic stressed me out, but I do enjoy following everyone who is participating and seeing what they come up. Maybe next year will be the year for that!
