Weekly Theme - Games

by Bethany Plonski April. 05, 2019 374 views

My first thought for this theme was board games, because we have a closet full of them. And I miiiiiight have been harboring a secret hope that I could incorporate kittens into my game pictures...kittens playing chess? Battleship? It seems like a brilliant idea, right? I went to the game closet, grabbed a bunch of games, and tried to get started.

Sorry, were you trying to do something with these dominos?

Sorry, were you trying to do something with these dominos?

Setting up lights and tiny game pieces in the house with two kitties on the loose was definitely a challenge. I got so frustrated the first night I decided I'd switch gears and try something different tonight.

I’m not much for video games and haven't played them much since the Nintendo and Sega Genesis days. Sonic the Hedgehog for the win!

Andrew still enjoys gaming and plays online sometimes to keep in touch with some of his friends who live far away. For Christmas last year, his sister got him a virtual reality headset, so I thought that might work well for this theme.

Thankfully I didn’t have to worry about Andrew eating any of the props or knocking over the lights while I took photos. I did completely forget to check my ISO tonight, so these are pretty noisy. Doh!

In the end I liked the photo of Charlie and his domino masterpiece more than the VR headset, so there we are.

And now for some more outtakes. :)

Thank you! Charlie was the well-behaved one, unlike his brother, who managed to pull the entire tablecloth off the table and then fluff it all up to take a nap in it. I have to laugh even when things don't turn out as planned. smile

Thank you, so glad you enjoyed them! Some days I can’t tell if I’ve gone full “crazy cat lady” or not… smile

My pleasure, Bethany!

If you're crazy, then I like crazy!

Is the kitten with the big ears part wild cat???

Great camera work!

Why, thank you!
I'd say he's 100 percent wild card. smile We never know what we're going to get with him. Sometimes he's super sweet and calm, and other times he acts like a little gangster! It's like "who are you really?" smile

We love you too, the three of us who have white paws and the 2 who have boring human paws! blue heart
I haven’t tried the virtual reality set yet, but when Andrew uses it, he loses track of which direction he is facing (in real life). smile Sometimes I will talk to him, and he replies with his back facing me like he thinks I’m right in front of him. It must be disorienting. I hear it gives some people motion sickness, but he doesn’t mind it.
Hope you are doing well, my dear!

Great lighting in #2, Bethany!

Thank you, Joe! That was a very lucky shot, both in the sense of where he landed in the frame and that he didn’t knock over the light when he jumped up. smile

You are a talented photographer, my friend, you probably planned the whole thing smile

Thanks, Joe! I do admit to having some ulterior motives and testing my luck letting these squirrelly little guys run free around my lighting equipment. smile

Thank you, glad you liked it! I still think virtual reality is a little eerie, so I wanted to capture that in the photo.

Thanks, Pete! It was definitely a challenge, and I still can't believe the light worked so well on the one where he jumped up and knocked over the dominos. smile

you captured that special moment well. Sometimes we need a bit of luck with the skill. Have a great weekend

Well, in photo #4, the cat at least respects the chess rule that white always moves first. grinning

Haha! That is a great observation. smile I was more worried about him eating chess pieces!

And not to be too picky - OK this is picky - you set up the board wrong.  The queen always sits on her color.  White queen, white square.  Consider your wrist whacked.  bowtie

smile Oh dear. I kept thinking it was wrong, so eventually I looked at the instruction sheet and fixed it, but this was one of the first shots in the series. Good eye!
