Weekly Theme - Getting Creative

by Bethany Plonski June. 07, 2019 302 views

It's been tough to find time this week, and it figures that on the one day I'd set aside to work on this theme, it would start pouring rain about five minutes after I set out. While I was sitting in the car waiting to see if the rain would let up (it didn't), I started watching the raindrops on the windshield and realized, Hey dummy! These raindrops are a perfect subject. Get to work!

Before the rain, I'd tried some intentional camera movement and zoom bursts outside with some flowers, but I didn't have enough time to figure out what I was doing before the rain started. I decided to use camera movement again with the raindrops, and I was much happier with those results.

No movement here, just liked the drops with the green background.

For those of you who pay attention to EXIF data, no, I did not get a new camera. I'm renting one (along with a different lens, which isn't showing up correctly in the data anyway) for some upcoming travel. Today was my first day trying the new combo. So far so good!

Thank you! It was fun to try a different kind of shot. Not something I'd usually do.

Beautiful shots. I must say, I like that ones with movement more than that one without. Maybe because at first glance it's not recognizable what it is. Nice abstract work!

Thanks so much, Heike! At first I felt the opposite, but after a few days I think the ones with movement have grown on me. smile

I really like these shots, Bethany. Camera movement can really add interest to photos. And often bad weather = great pictures. It's just that we don't like being cold and wet so we tend not to experiment in those conditions. I think numbers 1, 2, 3 and 4 are my favourites in this set. grinning

Thank you so much, you are too kind! smile Usually I'm trying so hard to hold the camera still - it's strange moving it on purpose, but it really can create some neat effects.

Great shots!  I've played with motion blur before but never tried it like this.  I will have to try this next time I'm in the car while raining.

Thank you! I don't usually think to use motion blur, so I was glad to have this challenge. smile
