Tower Update

The tower garden has been going for a month now, and it's a jungle out there! Here's a photo of the three week point:

And the four week point:

Hello, cucumbers!

Hello, cucumbers!

In the last week, the cucumbers have started taking over. I always forget how big they get, and they really start to encroach on the other plants' space. Next year I will probably grow just one instead of two. I may have to rotate some of the growing spaces soon to make sure the broccoli and arugula can get some more sun during the day. Right now they're covered by the cucumbers, and they don't seem too happy about it.

A week old and probably overdue for picking - about the size of a typical hothouse cucumber

The lettuce is growing strong and we've been harvesting every few days. Some of the plants are getting leggy and will probably bolt soon, but they've all been healthy and tasty so far.

Thank you! It has been doing very well this year and it's still fun to watch everything grow. This week I gave away a lot of cucumbers at work!

Yay! I'm glad it helped, and it's great to hear from you! smile I haven't had much time to look at other posts this week, but hopefully soon I can catch up and see how you've been doing. Hope all is well!

I know you can do strawberries in this way but never knew it would work for vegetables.

It works well with flowers too. I'll have to see if I can find any strawberry plants next year. I'd love to have them growing in there!

Thank you! I've never thought of myself as a green thumb (mostly because my mom is the gardening expert of the family). Fortunately this system is pretty easy!

Thank you! It's definitely growing well this year. One of these days I'll get around to taking some homegrown food photos.

I think I missed the first entry since you say update? This is really incredible. I don't think I have ever seen one of these. Your pictures are really inviting and tempting me to do some research to find this tower. Looks like you have enough to share with us Bethany smile

Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it. It's a really interesting system to learn, and it grows so much food! Nice to have veggies to share.

I missed the first part, so I went back to the post where you introduced it. Wow, that's cool ! I thought it would be a great gift for somebody I know and made a quick research in the web and saw the prices...smile ...Ok I bury that idea..that's not in my budget for gifts....laughing

Oh gosh, yes, it's too bad they cost so much because it would be a great gift for someone. I probably wouldn't be using one if I'd had to buy it myself! A big investment.

It has a lot of benefits for small spaces, and I've learned a lot from using it. Plus all the yummy food! smile

They are indeed doing very well. But maybe the tower is a little overcrowded smile

smile I think so...I need to be more diligent about pruning things back, but the evenings have been busy lately (and the mosquitos are always hungry out there).
