Rodeo Beach

The California coast is just full of places that I wish we had had more time to explore, and Rodeo Beach was one of them. It was a quick stop on a busy day, but whenever we get back to the Bay Area I will be sure to allow more time to visit this side of the headlands.

The pink flowers here have an interesting nickname: naked ladies. I didn’t realize that until afterwards, and I wish I’d taken more time to photograph them up close. They don’t flower until the rest of their leaves have died off, leaving tall, bare stems with a cluster of flowers sitting on top.

Cormorants in the lagoon

We only walked around the beach and lagoon, but there are several trails, a famous lighthouse, a WWII military base, and a marine mammal center all clustered around this general area. If only vacation time was unlimited. :)

If you're like me, you might be curious about how to pronounce the beach's name. Rodeo (like the cowboy competition) or RoDAYo (like fancypants Rodeo Drive)? It seems that most people use the latter.

Rodeo Beach your photo bring back wonderful memories.
As an avid photographer, Sausalito is a beautiful place. Personally, it is a day trip for my family. We head to Muir Woods, and stop-over in Sausalito. I used to ride my horse on this beach 40years ago, so it always fun to come back and see it from foot. I would come at LOW TIDE, as the walk to the South end of the beach opens up only then.

Thank you, I'm so glad to hear it brought back good memories! That's funny, we did the same day trip you suggested - went to Muir Woods in the morning and spent the afternoon in Sausalito and the Marin Headlands! Muir Woods was just gorgeous, I loved it. I didn't realize you could get to the other end of the beach during low tide - will have to remember that for next time!

I really like this set, Bethany. You've captured the light on the cliffs beautifully and it brings out the details and contours of the cliff faces.

Thank you so much! The rock formations on the coast are really fascinating, so many different textures from being worn away by water and time.
