The California coast is just full of places that I wish we had had more time to explore, and Rodeo Beach was one of them. It was a quick stop on a busy day, but whenever we get back to the Bay Area I will be sure to allow more time to visit this side of the headlands.

The pink flowers here have an interesting nickname: naked ladies. I didn’t realize that until afterwards, and I wish I’d taken more time to photograph them up close. They don’t flower until the rest of their leaves have died off, leaving tall, bare stems with a cluster of flowers sitting on top.

Cormorants in the lagoon

We only walked around the beach and lagoon, but there are several trails, a famous lighthouse, a WWII military base, and a marine mammal center all clustered around this general area. If only vacation time was unlimited. :)

If you're like me, you might be curious about how to pronounce the beach's name. Rodeo (like the cowboy competition) or RoDAYo (like fancypants Rodeo Drive)? It seems that most people use the latter.
Beautiful photos! Such peace and quiet :)
Thanks so much! I would love to go back there and enjoy some of that peace and quiet.
