Snow Day!

This week our weather was all over the place, again. Unseasonably warm weather escalated into thunderstorms and tornados on Thursday and ended with snow on Saturday. The snow was short-lived, as usual, but it sure was beautiful.

Saturday

This is one of my favorite views at the lake on Saturday morning. By late afternoon on Saturday, it had warmed up enough for the snow to turn to sleet and rain. Most of the remaining snow had turned to slush and ice by Sunday morning.

I was really glad the snow came on a day when I was home and had time to get out and enjoy it. When we walked the dog tonight, you would hardly have been able to guess we had about 2 inches covering everything the day before. It was almost like we got to live in another world for a day.

My tolerance for cold isn't what it used to be, so camera shake blurred a lot more of the photos than I expected. I was also using an umbrella and a plastic rain protector, so with all that bogging me down I got pretty lazy about changing settings. Definitely some lessons learned from this outing!

Still, being out in the snow just made my weekend.

Took this one through the screen on our porch. Not very sharp, but I can't resist a cardinal against a snowy background.

I spent a big chunk of my weekend outside enjoying the wintery weather, so I decided to break things up into a few sets. Next up, birds, blossoms, and black and whites. :)

You did get some snow! Love the close up shots. The red in the cardinal and the red in the berries, against the white...just beautiful!

All of these images are photographically stimulating- but #15 just surged forward as I was finishing the series. The red pop against the snow was gold medal!

Thank you, Buster! I love how red stands out against a white background. I kept looking for cardinals in the snow, but no luck with that. smile

It is very beautiful and well to say I am not Jealous would be a lie. I know even the upstate got some snow. Now it just needs to push down to the lowcountry before we have our pollen storms.

I know what you mean! Hopefully the snow will find you this year. Did you have any problems with tornados last week? We have family in the Greenville/Spartanburg area and they had one hit really close to their house. Scary stuff.

Nice snow shots, Bethany. You started off with a bang - #1 is beautiful - and you ended with a beautiful shot too. As you say, #7 may not be very sharp but the soft focus really adds to the mood. I really like the red cardinal against the almost monotone background. Well done.

Thank you so much, Greg! It's been 2 years since we've had any snow here, so I was determined to make the most of it. smile I saw so many cardinals too, but with all the snow gear I was nowhere near fast enough to keep up with them. I still like how #7 turned out though.

The pink blossoms against the dark green background with the white snow flakes is so striking. And I love the sepia treatment of #1 and the dreamy image of the red cardinal in the snow.

Thank you! The pink tree is in my neighbor's yard, the same kind of blossoms I posted last week. So far they seem to be holding up pretty well. It was quite a dreamy weekend, even if it was full of seasonal confusion. smile
