i never knew that little tree in the corner of the yard was a hazelnut tree.. till i pulled apart a husk .. i don't think it produced fruit before, i'm sure i'd have noticed these gems.. [we've lived here on the six acres woods for 4 years now]

so it is unexpected that i'd be harvesting my own hazelnuts..

You got to them before someone else/thing did. Really cool find and even cooler is the close up, especially #1 still wrapped in it's leaves.

i found some half eaten husks in the driveway, so i shook the tree and got another bunch.. :) the squirrels can have the acorns..  smile

Good year for the hazelnuts apparently. I've had a tree in my garden since I moved in the house in 2010 and this year it produces nuts for the first time too ... smile
