distraction

[autumn]

[autumn]

i get heart palpitations.. i've always had the odd skipped beats.. but sometimes they seem to stack up.. and in those moments [this moment] the best thing for me is distraction.. they say "lay down, breathe deep, be calm" but when i'm doing this, all my attention seems to be on my body.. all i feel is my heart beating and i can almost time when the skip is going to come and i start to feel the dreaded Anxiety.. and i fear a panic attack.. so for me, i have to distract myself.. so i grab my camera and go outside.. so many interesting things to pull my attention towards.. the sun on the maple tree grabbed me.. the wind storm last night took down so many leaves, but this tree is glorious with autumn colour..

as soon as i post this, i'm going back outside till i forget all about this mis-skipped heart..

I think those colours could distract anyone from anything...

Hopefully the palpations will stay under control. It is both a beautiful scene and a beautiful distraction :) well done .

I'm glad you found a way to deal with this. It takes a lot of strength and courage to face your fears and deal with them. And the results are beautiful!

First, keep that ticker under controle.I know good enough how stress, negative feelings can have a direct impact on your heart, stomach and other parts. Specially when one of the organs has a problem, minor or big. Take care of it dear. Second , the pictures are wonderfull, love the colorsetting. Autumn really has ariived at your place.

thanks Peter.. even when i think i have anxiety/stress under control, it sneaks up on me.. and it's usually when i am forgetting to maintain myself.. so i guess it's a reminder to get back to nurturing myself more .. it's a beautiful day here this morning.. !! :)

Wow, Sherry, I felt like you were telling my story! I also suffer from irregular heartbeat (atrial fibrillation), and I have been rushed to the ER for emergency intervention twice already. Just like your experience, when the AF hits, the more I try to deal with it, the worse it gets. The most effective way is to get distracted in a positive way. However, I may not have the strength to walk around and do other things as I usually don't get enough oxygen during an episode. Anyway, thanks for sharing your experience and the beautiful fall shots.

A lot of my AF episodes were triggered by negative emotions like stress, anxiety, conflicts, etc. but not always. And once it starts, there is not much I can do except pray and try to get distracted by listening to scripture reading. I am actively seeking medical help using traditional and alternative medicines. Will be seeing an electrophysiologist in a month's time. Hopefully something will work :)  Wish you well, Sherry.

we deal with it much the same.. faith in something.. mine is nature.. i'm very spiritual about it.. in the last 2 years, i've gotten very serious about dealing with the anxiety/stress/panic.. and i've gotten better at dealing, but sometimes, like today.. nothing was working..
when a good tv show as distraction was over, the palpitations started again.. so i tried jolting the vagus nerve.. [plugged ears blowing & coughing hard].. it helps, i'm getting a skip maybe every minute now..
i know this is turning into a book length response..
i appreciate you sharing.. thank you..
i am interested in your alternative medicine ways and what the electrophysiologist finds..

I started seeing a Chinese herbalist recently and he is prescribing some daily dosage of various herbal medicines. I don't know what's in those. I just take it. It's still too early to tell if it's helping, but at least it's natural stuff unlike the western medications I'm on which have undesired side effects. The electrophysiologist will assess my case and see if a catheter ablation is appropriate. You can google that if you want to know more. Cheers :)

the fellas uncle [and best friend] just had an ablation done for Supraventricular Tachycardia, i'm still learning all the ways the heart can jump out of rhythm.. my fella has a loop recorder implanted for SVT too..
i'm Native American, i truly believe in holistic medicine.. :)
btw, 2 more hard coughs on the vagus nerve and the skipping seems to have stopped.

a couple years ago i had a nuclear stress test and they said my heart was healthy.. but it's hard to NOT think about something you know isn't right in your body.. i put a super interesting show on tv and for an hour i was sooo into it that my heart only skipped maybe 7 times..
seems to get worse as i get older.. so i work hard to erase all stress.. sometimes it sneaks up on me tho..
thanks Buster..

Sounds like your heart has some form of electrical disassociation that might be easily controlled with a pacemaker. Hard to arm chair without knowing more. I'm a good listener. Rest for now and keep taking beautiful photos for us 😊
