Zipping around requires technical stops now and then.

One of the things that changed in our lives when we moved to Austin was the way we get around. Transportation back in NYC was done mainly by subway or bicycle. Here? Well we had to purchase a car.

As much as Austin is bike-friendly, the heat is still a deterrent. And not having many shaded streets has stopped any plans of purchasing bikes -for now.

So, with a car, come other responsibilities and expenses. And one of the former has been figuring out which is the better quality gas (or petrol for those of you in Europe) and being subject to oil market prices.

Here gas fluctuates from one day to the next, and not by little. Your choice of neighborhood to fill up in, as well as brand and time of the week, can add up to a higher bill than normal.

Still, the freedom that comes with owning a car is something we've banked on several times so far, to take day trips and weekend getaways without depending on train schedules.

This shot was taken while filling up the tank after a day of running errands... the little things that keep you going!

Cheers,
