Heavenly joy can be found anywhere you look
Today was sort of a busy day... the sun and heat had been beating down on Austin for some time now, and we had not seen much rain. But, spirits ran high.
We had wanted to take a tour of a sculpture garden (Umlauf) and had made arrangements to meet a friend at home for lunch and then take off and make the most of an early afternoon.
Later that evening, our friend and I would head out towards a small music joint which neither of us had visited before. I'm a big fan of blues, and Austin has, so far, paid-off in terms of live music for me.
I suggested the Skylark lounge since the photos on Yelp and its webpage presented an intimate space with small-town charm...
read: raggedy outside, a bit cramped, little lighting, and a long bar
And what do you know... this place did not disappoint! The music itself was amazing... the pace was slow but by the end of the first act, people of all ages were dancing in the small space around the stage. This made the 45 minute wait between acts feel like an eternity.
The second act delivered with a punch! Riding the remaining vibe from the first act, it did not take long for people to get funky. We were starting to feel tired though, so we called it a night before the end of that second act.
So far, I've been to two small blues venues in Austin... and it's just getting better!
